Kickassia is a CULT CLASSIC
Welcome to the very first episode of The Cheese Wheel! Your hosts, Andrew DeWolf, Jess McAnally, and Liz Esten, are kicking things off with a deep dive into a true cult classic: Doug Walker's cinematic opus, Kickassia. This 2010 parody film, brought to life by the Nostalgia Critic and his team, follows their outlandish attempt to take over the one-acre nation of Molossia and transform it into the absurdly named Kickassia.
For Andrew, Jess, and Liz, Kickassia isn't just a movie-it's a nostalgic landmark that defined an era of online content and fandom. In this episode, they'll reminisce about what made this chaotic, no-budget spectacle so special to them, dissect the film's unique brand of ...

Luccica | Opera Horror Film
Просмотров 25410 месяцев назад
👻 This Halloween, I'm sharing a project close to my heart: "Luccica," a haunting short opera.👻 In the summer of 2019, a remarkable ensemble of cast and crew united to craft this haunting operatic short film. Nearly five years have passed since its creation, and it remains one of the most cherished projects I've had the privilege to be a part of. I know directing is seen as an auteur medium, but...

@14:09, I disagree with the comment; Sally Bowels lifestyle is unsustainable! She lusts after men who cannot love her. She wants the thrill of the chase , but she abhors the day to day responsibilities that commitment requires. A civilization can not be built with a demographic of SallyBowels. She destroys the fetus and brakes her lovers heart because for her, that keeps her more interesting and tragic.

@3:34 The person talking about the message of Cabaret, gets it! All the main characters’ lives are MEANINGLESS! And the vacuum their hedonism sucked out of the culture made Nazi-ism appealing to the population.

Hot take: I really like Evermore, I dunno “If I Cant Love Her” is also good but I don’t think it doesn’t anything that Evermore doesn’t already do. I guess that’s just my opinion

You got your wish. Parade was revived on Broadway last year as a limited run where it won both Best Revival and Best Direction for Michael Arden. I think it had 4 other nominations too including leading actor and actress for Ben Platt and Michaela Diamond. Also my favorite part is “It’s Hard to Speak my Heart” because in the actual trial Leo wasn’t allowed to testify at all and was only allowed to give a short statement before the jury went off. And Jason Robert Brown included it because Leo also doesn’t testify in the musical and only gives his statement right before he is found guilty. Finding that out made me cry after I heard the original cast recording because I was thinking throughout the whole trial sequence where was Leo’s testimony. It’s not there because it didn’t happen in the actual trial! During my first time listening to the cast recording all I was thinking was “oh my god, this is so heartbreaking. How could they do this with no actual evidence against Leo?!” And then “Lucille is now my favorite character. But man the acting even on the recording by everyone is astoundingly good.” Then finally I was just holding my bated breath after “where will you stand when the flood comes”. I was expecting to cry by the end of the first act, but tears did not come until the first 3 notes of “All the Wasted Time”. The tears came so suddenly and silently that I didn’t even know I was crying until Leo started to sing and then I was crying the rest of the musical.

I don’t have nostalgia for the Joseph movie, but I do love the musical 😂. When I was a kid there was a local theatre that would do a production every few years, and I grew up going to see it. I cannot take away the nostalgic love I have for it.

I don’t dislike “Evermore” in isolation as a song. I just dislike that it exists, because its inclusion made it so that “If I Can’t Love Her” wasn’t included.

Aesthetics were nasty and kind of nauseous, cultural behavior was altogether entitled and “end of time” vibe. And despite having the best economy and overall quality of life, everyone was upset that they had general comfort and complained about how comfortable they were. We are paying today for actions that took place in the 90’s.

This show is in my area at the end of next month. $75. I thought about going to it. I couldn't understand the summary of it, and something about it didn't feel right. I'm glad I watched this video. It's disgusting to portray a character with social anxiety as a deceitful, manipulative individual. What does that impart to the audience? Don't the socially awkward have enough misconceptions to get through as they fight to become comfortable in their own skin? Thanks for making this.

Concerning Tango Maureen, yes the tango IS a dance for two people. That's why Mark and Joanne are rather annoyed that Maureen kept bringing other partners into the mix. Or at least that was understanding of the number.

While (Not) Getting Married Today is my personal favorite Sondheim patter song, would West Side Story's Gee Officer Krupke also be considered one? I know Sondheim didn't write the music, but I love the fast paced lyrics. RIFF: Dear kindly social worker, They tell me get a job, Like be a soda jerker, Which means I'd be a slob. It's not I'm anti-social, I'm only anti-work. Glory Osky, that's why I'm a jerk! A-RAB ("Social Worker"): Eek! Officer Krupke, you've done it again. This boy don't need a job, he needs a year in the pen. It ain't just a question of misunderstood; Deep down inside him, he's no good! RIFF: I'm no good! ALL: We're no good, we're no good, We're no earthly good, Like the best of us is no damn good! DIESEL ("Judge"): The trouble is he's lazy. ACTION ("Psychiatrist"): The trouble is he drinks. A-RAB ("Social Worker"): The trouble is he's crazy. DIESEL ("Judge"): The trouble is he stinks. ACTION ("Psychiatrist"): The trouble is he's growing. A-RAB("Social Worker"): The trouble is he's grown. ALL: Krupke, we got troubles of our own!

I loved this when I was in high school! I was so excited for the realeases, thought it was so cool seeing my favorite reviewers all come together to make a movie, and remember having a great time when it came out! Looking back, I know it had problems, but the most toxic impulse (nostalgia) is clearly alive and well in me. I also dearly miss that level of earnestness that is hard to picture existing on this level online nowadays.

What a controversial first pick for this podcast to cover, loaded with baggage from a turbulent period I lived through.

I remember i used to watch Channel Awesome all the time in middle school! It reinforced the fact that Baby Geniuses was not a fever dream, but in fact a real movie. And I got to discover other garbage like The Pagemaster, Garbage Pail Kids, The Leprechaun, and it also made me realize that Full House was not that great.

  • @36inc
    @36inc 26 дней назад

i watched that movie more than a few times. as much as there is underneath the surface sobering its vibe down my humor was ruined by this era of the internet, i absolutely find the stuff funny i do today cause someone on that guy with the glasses did those style of jokes.I still follow Phealus and Bennet even and lindsey is way better post site embarrassment. its an internet touchstone for better or for worse, and theres just a simple charm to the concept. however his style of critique never really stood to the test of time- rewatching old reviews what was his jealousy of jeff goldblum about exactly.XD I call it critical misery its simply negging a movie but in repeating negative aspects as the cornerstone of jokes and memes, every now and again hed mention an ideal way a scene or movie should play its hand; but as a body of work it just ends up miserably unable to enjoy fun movies. oh yeah BAT CREDIT card gag hit hard; but those campy batman films were supposed to be campy- it was honoring the goofy legacy of batman afterall. and when ya think about the gag- its the same joke the movies making. red letters medias starwars prequel reviews set a tone for how reviews on the internet generally see movies. from a a place of disappointment and it infected every media criticism atleast on youtube for a decade. to the point where the internet hating everything was itself a meme. I kinda respect it cause you could still hear the echos of nerd joy still present when they did this project. and until AVGN did monster madness there just wasnt alot of high key joy reviews about things people loved balancing that shit out. thats partly why i still watch bennet he never truly went full jokester in his reviews so he never really got to negative unless it was definitely appropriate to be.

I'm currently playing the role of Herr Schultz in the original 1966 version of the show at the Shawnee Playhouse in Pennsylvania. Yes, the original IS still being performed from time to time. AND: Herr Schultz DOES have a song in the 1966 version: Meeskite. He sings it during the engagement party. It's a pity that the song was deleted from all subsequent revivals of the show...

I don't understand the hatred of Clara. She was honest with Giorgio about her boundaries within the relationship--i.e., that she would not leave her husband until her son was old enough for boarding school. Giorgio, in full possession of this knowledge, vows his eternal love. After being exposed to Fosca's obsession, Giorgio declares that Clara's love is worthless unless it rises to the level of Fosca's declaration that he is the reason she lives (sigh) I don't doubt Fosca's strong "passion" for Giorgio, but I also remember that she has nothing else in or about her life that she doesn't hate. While I don't condone Clara's adultery, I don't condemn her feelings toward Giorgio because they don't match the strength of Fosca's.

The entire musical is a book of poems, Word FOR WORD set to music!! When do we ever get something "word for word" in an adaptation!? T.S. Eliot wrote 'Old Possum's book of Practical Cats" and that's literally every song!! It's perfect!!
